Pain Management
Pain management is one of the most important aspects in providing a good quality of life in animals (and people, for that matter.) We feel strongly that we need to proactively look for ways to manage pain in our animal family members, especially because they can’t speak to tell us when or where they are hurting.
We know that multimodal pain management (using multiple different types of pain control at the same time) is the most effective way to manage pain. Here at CAWC, we offer anti-inflammatory drugs, narcotics, neuropathic (nerve) pain medications, and nutraceuticals to treat chronic and acute pain. Because we pride ourselves in our integrative veterinary medicine approach, we also use holistic options or remedies such as Chinese herbal formulas, homeopathic remedies, acupuncture, Veterinary Orthopedic Manipulation (veterinary chiropractic), and laser therapy. For at home use we offer anti-inflammatory therapies such as infratonic sound therapy and PEMF (pulse electromagnetic frequency) devices. There are also local centers for animal physical therapy and rehabilitation that we work with to provide your pet with a full range of pain management options.
Make an appointment to discuss your pet’s condition and we will perform a complete holistic and western physical exam, and in some cases do diagnostic imaging (x-rays). We can then recommend a pain management protocol. We will revise this protocol in time, depending on how your pet responds to treatment. We can add in new treatments as your pet’s condition changes and work with you to modify your pet’s environment to help them get around easier. Fortunately, there are many simple things you can do to keep your pet active and comfortable, even when living with chronic conditions.
